Designer Spotlight - Audrey Borrego

Designer Spotlight - Audrey Borrego

Audrey Borrego of @yarnflakes is a knitwear designer who lives in the southwest of France. Her catalog is full of beautiful designs with colorwork and lace. She wants to bring confidence to knitters through her patterns.

Audrey’s collection has a lot of variety: socks, cowls, sweaters, cardigans, shawls, pillows, and more. There is something for everyone. Audrey has retired from professional designing as of February 2025, so she has made all of her patterns free.

Tya

Tya is a top-down drop shoulder tee with several customization options. The stripe pattern on the chest can be adjusted to preference (or left out, if desired), and the hem can be split of knit closed. The pattern has charted and written instructions for the cable detail.

Mara

Mara is a small scarf with a simple texture, a bit of lace, and an i-cord border. The pattern is worked sideways, and is completely customizable to the amount of yarn you have available. The design is both written and charted.

The scarf is made from fingering weight yarn, though a different yarn weight would just slightly change the size of the finished item. The new LAINE x Novita 4PLY is a great option for this pattern, and comes in 18 beautiful colors to choose from. If you're looking for a slightly softer option, Helli is a sport-weight 100% merino yarn that would also be a fabulous choice for this pattern.

Xyris

Xyris is a light tee with a gorgeous lace design all over the back. The design is worked bottom-up until the armholes, after which the front and back are worked flat and joined together at the shoulder with a three-needle bind off. The loose fit makes it a great option for the summer or mid-season.

The pattern is written for fingering-weight yarn. The new Novita Helene is a fabulous option for this design. Its Merino wool, Silk, and Super Kid Mohair blend makes it fabulously soft, light, and fluffy.

Tramea

Tramea is a triangular shawl that combines simple textures and slipped stitch motifs. The shawl's shape is balanced, and the result is a beautifully plum accessory.

Tramea is a triangular shawl with an eye-catching graphic design that’s surprisingly easy. The shawl is knit with three different colors, but only one is used at a time. Slipped stitches create the colorwork, and knits and purls create interesting textures. The result is a warm and cozy shawl that is sure to draw many compliments.

Tukuwool sock is a unique Finnish sock yarn spun and dyed in Finland, with Finnish Wool and biodegradable polyamide The sport-weight yarn is an 80/20 blend making it durable, and the colors are stunning.

I've put together several color combinations for you. Grab a bundle to make your own Tramea in my shop!
