Designer Spotlight - Holli Yeoh

Holli Yeoh of @holliyeoh and holliyeoh.com

Holli has been knitting for a very long time. Personally, I’m not sure I believe she's old enough to have been knitting for as long as she claims, though she does have an extensive catalog of published patterns going back more than 20 years.

Holli's designs cover the gamut from clothing to accessories to home decor, and her garments range from kids' sizes to adults. She is committed to size-inclusivity, and is working through her older designs to expand their range. Her pattern documents include detailed written instructions, charts and written charted instructions, multiple images, and lots of helpful notes.

The Only Sock Pattern You'll Ever Need

The Only Sock Pattern You'll Ever Need is Holli's latest sock pattern. It is written for any weight yarn, at any gauge, for any size sock. The pattern includes comprehensive guidance for every single step. Scroll down for more details on this pattern and yarn suggestions.

Devan

Devan is a stylish V-neck cardigan that's perfect for cooler weather or windy days. The pattern is written for sizes preemie to 4-year-old, and is worked bottom-up in pieces. And as always, the pattern is very comprehensive and includes  written directions, detailed yardage requirements for each intarsia bobbin/section, instructions for both male and female button placement, front and back images, a schematic with measurements, and thoughtful details.

Midnight River Mantle

Midnight River Mantle is a bottom-up mantle with an angled stitch pattern reminiscent of gentle waves. The garment is asymmetrically shaped, knitted flat, then seamed together. It's a wonderfully versatile piece that can be paired with jeans and a t-shirt just as well as your favorite little black dress.

The pattern is written for a worsted weight yarn, but since it is more of a shawl than a sweater, an Aran-weight yarn like Lankava Lysti would be a fine substitute. Just adjust your needle size to achieve gauge, or make it a bit bigger.

Wake

Wake is a lovely cardigan with a lacy stitch pattern that was inspired by the wake behind the BC ferry. The cardigan is worked bottom-up in one piece until the armholes, then the work is divided and the front and back are worked separately. Waist shaping is achieved with changing needle sizes, so the lace design remains unbroken.

The pattern calls for two strands of fingering-weight yarn to be held together. The new LAINE x Novita 4 PLY is perfect for a project like this. Try Frosted Mint for a color close to the sample, or Heathered Teal for a darker option.

Sock Yarns

The Only Sock Pattern You’ll Ever Need.

That’s a big claim from a pattern. This particular pattern might just deliver on that promise for basic socks. It covers everything from choosing your yarn and figuring out gauge, all the way to knitting the perfect size and styling the socks. This pattern can be worked in any weight yarn, at any gauge, to make any size sock.

And as such, you can pick any of the sock yarns I carry to use with this pattern! Pick a solid color from Sulo (fingering), Mainio (DK), or Lysti (Aran), or a multi-colored option like Blossom Fade (DK) or Nordlys (fingering). You can also mix and match the colors and yarns!

Yarns for Devan

This week I couldn't pick just one pattern to get into more detail with. Can you blame me? How adorable is this cardigan (and the model)? There's a surprise design feature on the back of the cardigan, and it can be made in sizes from preemie to 4-year-old.

And with perfect timing, I've just received a shipment of yarns, including some new colors. And guess what one of the colors is? It is called Sandy Beach, and it is on the fingering-weight Sulo base. Seems to me like that's made for this pattern.
