Designer Spotlight - Lumi Karmitsa

Lumi Karmitsa of @lumikarmitsa is one of the most popular knitting designers in Finland, and it's not hard to see why. Her designs are detailed and eye-catching. She uses animals, flowers, and fairy tale characters in many of her designs, but there are also many other themes.
Lumi's designs have been published in multiple books and magazines. She has created several patterns inspired by Finnish ceramics company Arabia. Three of her socks and mittens books have been translated into several languages. I'm thrilled to be able to carry her Kirjosukkakirja book in my shop.
Bunnies & Peonies are cute little socks with curious little bunnies peeking out of the peonies. Their little tilted ears just add to the charm. The socks are knit with Fingering-weight yarn, and Sulo is a perfect option for them.
Still Laughing is a fresh take on Lumi’s popular Laughing Skulls design with some added florals. He who laughs last, laughs best is an idiom used in Finnish as well as English. These knee-high socks take the laughing skull design and add a feminine twist with florals on the front and the back. Another fingering-weight design, so pick up some Sulo to make a pair.
Reporanka is a gorgeous baby blanket that is knit in the round and then steeked open. Reporanka is a Finnish word that means being very tired. The prefix "repo" is a word also used for the fox, although in this word it is only used for emphasis. Grab some Sulo and make yourself a cozy blanket to use when you collapse on the couch reporankana.
Ketunleipäblues is a knee-high sock pattern with foxes surrounded by little flowers. In Finnish wood sorrel is called ketunleipä which translates to fox's bread. These adorable knee-high socks are one of the many designs in Lumi Karmitsa's Kirjosukkakirja book. All the designs in the book are knit from one pattern, just pick the chart for the design you want to make.
The pattern in Lumi's book is written for fingering-weight yarn. Sulo is a perfect selection for these: it is a 72/25 blend of superwash wool and polyamide for warmth and durability. Snow, Saffron, and Pesto are the perfect colors for this design.
