Designer Spotlight - Sara R

Sara of @mycupofknitting

Sara is a knitwear designer from Finland who has been creating patterns since 2008. She draws inspiration from all kinds of places, and it mostly hits as she's finally in bed at the end of the day (who relates?).

When scrolling her patterns and Instagram feed, you can see that yellow, pink, and purple are definitely Sara's favorite colors. Her collection has a lot of socks, shawls, and other accessories.

Taproot

Taproot was originally a Mystery Knit Along pattern in June of 2022. This pattern uses textures and a bit of lace to create lovely socks. This pattern is designed for solid colored yarn, which allows the design to shine as the main character. There are three size options.

The pattern is written for fingering-weight yarn. Sulo is a fantastic selection, as it comes in 23 solid colors to choose from. Desert Rose would be a great color to match the sample. Scroll down to see.

Pink Fizz Socks

Pink Fizz Socks is a fun pattern with a variety of different textures to keep you engaged. The design was initially created as a collaboration for a Christmas Eve Treat box. The cast on date was Christmas Eve, Most people have lots of down time in that last week of the year, so they would have been easily ready by New Year's Eve.

The pattern is written for fingering-weight yarn. It would work well with a solid colored yarn like Lankava Sulo, but a yarn with a long color change like Viking Nordlys would work as well.

Gelato

Gelato is an asymmetrical triangle shawl designed for a single skein of fingering weight yarn. It is created with a combination of soothing garter and dropped yarn overs. This makes it a simple project with stunning results.

Pick up some Lankava Sulo or Viking Nordlys to create one for yourself or a friend.

Foula

Foula is a beautiful shawl inspired by the one of the most remote inhabited islands in the British Isles. The name Foula comes from the Old Norse for ‘bird island’. The design combines lace and bobbles for beautiful result.

The pattern is written for DK weight yarn. The new LAINE x Novita DK 100% wool yarn would be a fantastic selection for this design. The wool blend of Falkland Island wool, Bluefaced Leicester, and Bluefaced Kerry Hill is all sourced from the British Isles, and is expertly spun in West Yorkshire, England, the original home of the spinning industry.

Yarn for Taproot

Desert Rose from Lankava is slightly lighter than the color used for the sample socks, but it's got that same muted tone. It plays well with the soft and delicate feel of the design. Sulo does also have 22 other solid colors to choose from if this one isn't your preference.
