Designer Spotlight - Satu Tolvanen

Satu is the Head Witch of Noitametsä and a designer of magical knitwear patterns. Satu wanted to create a place where her soul was free to create the way she wants to. She has always been interested in folklore, mysticism, fantasy, and the witchy and magical side of life. In Noitametsä she has built a place where she is free to be exactly the person she wants to be.

Satu weaves mysticism, lore, and spells from a time gone by into her designs. Various crafts have been a part of her life since she was a child, and she constantly wants to learn new things and create. She has several patterns available in English, and I think you're going to love them.

Kallovie is a pair of stranded colorwork mittens with a skulls and bone motif. The design is striking and eye-catching. Scroll down for more details on this pattern.

Olipakerran is a long, flowing dress knit top down, and the sleeve and hem lengths are easy to adjust. Since it is knit with slightly bigger needles than most sweaters, and from alpaca silk yarn it is warm and light, like a hug made of yarn.

Tuonen Karja is a pair of stranded colorwork socks with bulls from the beyond. The cuff features mystical shapes, and the bulls' eyes are duplicate stitched with red. The socks are made with fingering-weight yarn.

Raven & a Coin is a top-down circular yoke sweater with a raven skull motif, and coins that repeat at the hem and cuffs. The fit makes it a great unisex option. In addition to charts, the pattern includes photo tutorials for provisional cast on and Wrap & Turn (short rows). The pattern calls for DK-weight yarn

A closer look at Kallovie: The colorwork design is challenging, which makes the finished project that much more rewarding. The thumb is knit with a gusset creating a comfortable fit. They're made with Aran weight yarn which means they will definitely keep your fingers warm.
