This handy measuring tool measures both your knitting gauge as well as your needles. The full 10x10 cm (4x4 inch) center opening is great for measuring an accurate stitch count. The sun's "rays" allow you to measure needles from 0.7 mm all the way to 15.00 mm.

These gauges are laser cut from PEFC and FSC-certified birch plywood. Please note that the needle sizes are marked in millimeters.

How to use:

Knit a swatch that measures larger than the tool, 15x15 cm (6x6 inches) or so. Place the swatch on a flat surface, and lay the measuring tool over it. Count how many stitches across and how many rows are visible along the edges with the measurement markings.

Record these numbers as your pre-block gauge.

Block your swatch the same way you intend to block your finished garment: soak it, steam it, lay it flat to dry, pin it and stretch it, etc. Once the swatch has dried, repeat the steps to count the stitches.

Record these numbers as your blocked gauge.

The blocked gauge is what you'll see in the pattern. You can use the pre-block gauge while you're working on your project to know how much to knit.
