Designer Spotlight - Charlotte Stone

Charlotte Stone of @stoneknits creates colorful and whimsical designs inspired by things like nature, literature and fairy tales. She especially loves knitted socks, which get a lot of use in her home near Zurich, Switzerland. She has written two books: Charming Colorwork Socks, and Joyful Colorwork Socks, Her designs have also been included in both volumes of 52 Weeks of Socks from Laine.

I Heart Socks is a sock design full of love! Even though these socks were designed as a celebration of Valentine's Day, hearts are a perfect addition to every day. They're knit top-down and have a simple heart colorwork design. Sulo in Chili and Desert Rose are a great choice for these socks.

Herding Cats Socks is a whimsical pattern that features kitties. Whether you make all of the kitties the same color, or make each row of cats different, these socks will be a fun addition to your collection. Use a multi-colored yarn to create striped or calico cats. These socks also use fingering-weight yarn like Sulo.

Summer Meadows is a design inspired by the meadows on Swiss mountain sides. Charlotte specifically makes a reference to The Sound of Music in her description. A simple yet striking colorwork pattern is featured through the whole sock. Use two solid colors, or pair a solid with Nordlys for a bit of variety.

Itty Bitty Berry Socks is a beautiful design inspired by deliciously tart wild strawberries. Have you ever tried any? They're my favorite thing to pick in the forest. This pattern has options for multiple lengths to allow for customization, and a pretty picot edge on the cuff. Chili and Cotton Candy in Sulo would be perfect for this design.

There are lots of great solid color combinations that the Summer Meadows socks can be made with. And for even more variety, the flower design can be made with a multi-colored yarn. Pesto is a great contrast color, very grass-like. I've put together some color combinations with solids and multi-colored options for you to try out.
