Designer Spotlight - Heini Perälä

Heini Perälä of @heinikkidesign

Heini is a Finnish knitwear designer who creates absolutely gorgeous sock designs. She is a garment artisan by training, and has been running her design business for ten years. In her designs Heini is inspired by strong colors and striking motifs. She loves colors, flowers, folk art, antiques, fairytales, mystique, nature, winter, old houses, night sky, the Moon and all of the little magical things in every day.

Heini's patterns have been even been published in books like Disney Tim Burton's Nightmare Before Christmas and Knitting with Disney. Her first solo book is called Heinikin Sukkakirja. That one is currently just in Finnish, but her patterns have detailed charts and images.

Unelmakartta is a beautiful and intricate sock design that uses color dominance for a striking effect. This is a shorter sock pattern and needs only one skein of each color. We've even curated some fabulous color combinations for you.

Elli Ilona is a striking design inspired by Heini's love of horses and uses the Swedish Dala Horse as its motif. The pattern is named after Heini's goddaughter who is one of a kind and charmingly sweet, just like these socks.

Serpent is a design featuring intricate twisting snakes among flowers and leaves. The Serpent is present in symbolism around the world, though the meaning can vary from place to place.

Pikeeri is the Finnish word for royal icing. These socks feature a delicate collection of hearts that can easily go from season to season with just a color change

Serpent is knitted sock pattern that features a beautiful pair of snakes. The Serpent is present in symbolism around the world, though the meaning can vary from place to place. A snake can symbolizes  wisdom, knowledge, transformation, rebirth, healing, secrets, and force.

I now have digital patterns in my shop, including this one

Sulo is a 75/25 blend of superwash wool and polyamide, great option for this project. Soot and Pistachio will give you the same look as the sample. Or try Curry or Dandelion for an albino python look.
