Designer Spotlight - Jenn Steingass

I have been enamored with Jenn Steingass’s designs since I first saw them. They’re so intricate and and beautiful. Jenn aims to create patterns that are modern, yet timeless, and I think she has definitely accomplished that.

Jenn learned to knit after her first child was born. As happens to many of us, she found herself staying up, late at night, knitting much longer than she should. She would share her projects on Ravelry, and after encouragement from a fellow knitter she started publishing patterns.

Fern & Feather is a top-down circular yoke sweater with a simple yet striking colorwork design. The pattern has a simple rolled neckline, and is worked seamlessly. Since it's made of a thicker yarn, it will knit up quickly.

Treelight is a circular yoke sweater that is knit seamlessly from the bottom up.  The design is inspired by the light shining through a forest canopy. The pattern calls for Lettlopi, which means it will be soft as well as a quick knit.

Goldwing is a top-down circular yoke sweater, which is knit seamlessly in the round with DK yarn. The main color and the contrast color switch roles half way through the yoke. There are two options for a neckline, and the yoke motif is repeated in the sleeve cuffs. The feather design and the colors of the sample were inspired by the Golden Snitch.

The Harvester is Jenn's newest design, which was just released. The leaf motif on the yoke swirls as if they were on the wind. The pattern is written for two colors, and is knit seamlessly in the round, from the top down.

The Harvester is written for two colors, but it's very easy to add a third color by making the second set of leaves in a different shade. Another option is to use a yarn with a gradient, and not just for the leaves, but also for the body color.

The Lankava sook yarns are fabulously versatile yarns that work for all kinds of projects. Mainio is a great option for this project. Pair up two of the solid colors like Sand and Pesto. Or pair Mainio with Blossom Fade to have a color change within the leaves. Or under them!
