Designer Spotlight - Jenny Noto

Designer Spotlight - Jenny Noto

Jenny Noto of @wanded527 finally learned to knit early 2019, and (like many of us) hasn't been able to stop. Later that year she released her first pattern, and now there are 142 in her Ravelry shop! There are hats, mittens, and cowls sure to suit everyone. I love all the different textures, and wish I had time to make them all.

Jenny’s patterns include photo and video tutorials, and many have multiple size options and instructions on how to adjust for a personal fit.

Revelio Scarf

Revelio Scarf is an intriguing design that only uses knit and purl stitches and only one color at a time. The shadow knitting technique is very easy, but creates a a result that is sure to be a conversation starter.

I've made one of these scarves, and found it to be a perfect balance of simple and fascinating. I used Lankava Mainio in Rain and Snow for my scarf.

Tentacula Cowl

Tentacula Cowl uses an eye-catching, unique stitch technique that will expand your knitting skills. This pattern is an intermediate level design, and will help you level up and grow your confidence. It might have you on your toes at first, but once all the pieces click into place, you'll find yourself thrilled. The pattern includes a photo tutorial, an option for working with two colors (an advanced technique), and modification instructions for different weights.

Lankava Into and Lempi would be a great options for this pattern. Both are soft and squishy, and come in a variety of different colors.

Feathertail Hat

Feathertail Hat is another pattern with an impressive texture that can be made from any weight yarn. It is adventurous, engaging, and fun, and provides something interesting for everyone. Scroll down for more details!

Death Wing Cowl

Death Wing Cowl is a stranded colorwork cowl inspired by dragons of the Empyrean series. The pattern has three options for edging, and instructions on how to adjust the pattern to work for DK-weight yarn. Oh, and did you notice there are two dragons?

When made with DK-weight yarn, Lankava Mainio and CEWEC Blossom Fade are a great combination for this pattern. One skein of each is enough for one cowl.

Feathertail Hat Yarns

This pattern is very customizable. There are two different crown options, and there are instructions on how to adjust the size. It looks great with or without a pom.

Since Feathertail can be made with any weight of yarn, there are lots of different options to choose from. My top two picks are Lankava's Into and Lempi. Both are 100% wool yarns, and very squishy and soft. They're perfect for accessories like hats.

If you have a concern about the HP theme of many of the patterns, here’s Jenny”s stance: “I believe that the Harry Potter universe now belongs to the fans. No matter what has been said, it’s sad to leave the fanfiction, artwork, and creativity that it has inspired in so many of us. We have grown up with that universe and it is OURS now. The true lessons it has taught us remain.
A portion of all pattern sales is donated to Active Minds - a nonprofit organization supporting mental health awareness and education for young adults.” The designs are inspired, not licensed.
