Designer Spotlight - Jovi Geraci

Jovi of @hookmountainhandmade
Jovi and her family live in a 1890s Victorian house on the prairie of Western Illinois. Not only does Jovi knit and design, she spins yarn, among other creative hobbies. She loves texture and bold, graphic color work, and this is evident in the patterns she creates.
The Hook Mountain Handmade includes the sweaters, cardigans, hats, gloves, and cowls you would expect from a designer who also lived in New York, but Jovi also has designs for the summer months. Her aim is to create patterns that aren’t overly complicated but that produce beautiful results- patterns that you can knit at your book club, a soccer game, or sitting on your front porch.
Archane Mitts
Â
Â
Archane Mitts are cozy fingerless mitts with a cabled spider design that has been taken from the Archane pullover and downsized to fit on a hand. They're knit in the round, cuff up (or is it down? I guess it depends on which way you're holding your hand).Â
The pattern is written for sport-weight yarn. I still have a few balls of Lankava Helli in stock, and since these are on the hands, 100% merino would be a fabulous choice. And it's still on sale!
Winter Garden Sweater
Â
Â
Winter Garden Sweater is both the most favorited of Jovi's patterns on Ravelry, as well as the one with the most projects. It is a top-down sweater with beautiful lines, a boat neck, a St. John's Wort lace detail below the bust, and a cropped shape that lends itself perfectly for layering with dresses or high-waisted jeans. It's a great project start after the holidays wind down and work on throughout the winter months so it's ready in time for early spring.Â
The pattern calls for sport or DK weight yarn. A few of the colors of Lankava Helli have enough in stock to make one of these. You can also pick one of the 23 solid colors of Lankava Mainio to make your sweater from.Â
Uprising
Â
Â
Uprising is a top-down raglan sweater with a dramatic twisted rib detail on the side. It's worked top down and is completely seamless. The rib detail is not only eye-catching, it creates waist shaping for the sweater. According to Jovi, sometimes a little uprising is exactly what we all need.
The pattern is written for DK-weight yarn, so you can pick one of the 23 solid colors of Lankava Mainio for this project.
Hedgerow Cardigan
Hedgerow Cardigan is a cozy raglan cardigan with pockets! And not just pockets, but round pockets! They’re the perfect shape and size to keep your favorite sweets nearby for any time you need them. The sweater is worked top-down seamlessly, and the pockets are knit separately and sewn in place as the final touch. Â
Yarn for Hedgerow Cardigan
The pattern calls for two strands of fingering held together. Lankava Sulo is a superwash treated wool blend yarn that is great for all kinds of projects, including this one. It is available in 23 solid colors, and I think this sweater would look fabulous in a cozy dark brown like Coffee. If you'd prefer to knit with a single strand, you can find all the same colors in Lankava Lysti, which is the same weight as two strands of Sulo.Â
