Kat Riddell of @katriddell
Kat’s knitting hobby started like many others: she saw a piece, decided she wanted one, and figured she could make it herself. And it only took four years! She'll try anything at least once and loves learning new techniques.
Today Kat designs garments and accessories with a “Why the Hell Not" philosophy. In her opinion knitting should be fun, and the garments are intended to be worn. Can't say I disagree.
Easy A
Easy A is a sweater designed to take as little thinking as possible while being knit. It is all garter stitch knit flat. The back is longer than the front so there's no stress over getting the pieces to be the same size. It's designed with four inches of positive ease so it's very cozy. It even has pockets!
The pattern calls for bulky-weight yarn which means it knits up quite quickly. Lempi is a wonderfully fluffy bulky-weight yarn in 100% wool. It comes in 12 colors, one is sure to fit your style.
The Poet Dreams of the Mountain
The Poet Dreams of the Mountain is a bulky weight shawl inspired by a poem by Mary Oliver. The lace pattern of the shawl is both charted and written. Scroll down for more details.
Mooreville Chalk
Mooreville Chalk is a slightly cropped, lacy top named for the Mooreville Chalk Formation in Alabama and Mississippi. The top has a boxy shape, and is intended to be worn with up to four inches of positive ease.
Portsmouth
Portsmouth is a cozy beanie inspired by the gorgeous brick buildings and sidewalks of its namesake. The pattern is also included in the Granite collection.
Lankava Lysti is a great yarn for this pattern. It now comes in 26 solid colors to choose from. Pick your favorite and knit up a hat for yourself or a friend. Or both!
Yarn for The Shawl
The Poet Dreams of the Mountain draws its inspiration from a poem by Mary Oliver. The poem speaks to slowing down and appreciating the nature around us. The pattern is worked sideways, and the base of the pattern is a 1x1 rib with a lace design.
The shawl is knit with bulky-weight yarn, which means it’s a relatively quick project. Lempi is a perfect option for this: A 100% wool yarn in a bulky weight in 12 great colors.
