Just a heads up: Many of the pattern links in Designer Spotlight posts are to Ravelry. I recognize the site isn't accessible to all. To find alternate sources for the designer's patterns I encourage you to check out their Instagram linked at the top of the post.

Designer Spotlight - Sarah Kelly

Sarah of @grey_owl_knits

Sarah is a knitwear designer from Alberta, Canada, and has been knitting since she was a child. She's been helping others with, and adjusting patterns for herself since her teens. She started designing patterns of her own in 2021 after receiving a custom order for dragonfly mittens which ended up being very popular.

Sarah’s designs are full of fun and color. She enjoys using her designs to set scenes, and often chooses unpredictable and whimsical subjects. Several of her patterns are "choose your own" patterns so you can create a truly unique and personalized garment.

Bunny Wishes Socks

Bunny Wishes Socks is a pattern with a wee little bunny blowing wishes on a dandelion puff. The motif was originally introduced on mittens, but the socks have been a big hit. The socks are knit cuff down, starting with a mock cable at the top and colorwork just on the leg (aside from a couple of lines at the toe).

The pattern uses fingering weight yarn, so Lankava Sulo is a great option for it. There are 23 solid colors to choose from. Make grey bunnies with Fog or Smoke, black bunnies with Soot or Salty Licquorice, and white bunnies with Snow. Or Sand and Coffee for brown bunnies.

Dancing Dragonfly Mitten

Dancing Dragonfly Mittens are the mittens that started it all. Sarah received a request for custom dragonfly mittens, and when they proved to be popular, she wrote a pattern for them. Sarah has hoped to capture the spirit of the joy of seeing dragonflies dancing in the meadows.

Choose Your Own Fungi

Choose Your Own Fungi is one of several "Choose Your Own" designs in Sarah's catalog. It a top down circular yoke sweater that has 22 charts to mix and match for a totally personalized sweater. In addition to fungi the charts have the Wee Fieldmouse, fairies, frogs, ferns, flowers, and more. Make the sleeves short or long, use lots of colors or just a couple.

Lankava Sulo also works well for sweaters. The superwash wool means it's easy to care for, and the polyamide reinforcement helps it keep its shape. Pick a main color and use scraps from other projects to make the designs, or get all the colors you need from the 23 solid options or the four multicolored ones,

Ice Cream Dreams Mittens

Ice Cream Dreams Mittens are a delicious treat that actually keeps your fingers warm. Four flavors of ice cream, and a cuff with a design that looks like a cone. Even though it looks like these are melting, you don't have to worry about anything dripping on your clothes.

This pattern is written for DK weight yarn, so Lankava Mainio is a great choice. With 23 colors to choose from, you're sure to find ones that matches your favorite ice cream flavors.

Yarn for Dancing Dragonfly Mittens

While Lankava Sulo is called a sock yarn, all that means is that it has polyamide in it to make it more durable. This means it's also fabulous for mittens. While they don't get quite as much wear as socks do against a floor, they do benefit from the reinforcement, too. And Coffee and Cotton Candy or Desert Rose are a great combination to match the sample image.
