Desiner Spotlight - Jenna Kostet

Jenna Kostet is a Finnish knitwear designer who finds inspiration in Finnish nature, mythology, and folklore. She has studied folklore and anthropology at Turku University, so she has plenty of source material to pull from.

Jenna's designs have been published in lots of different books and magazines. She has filled two books with designs inspired by Finland's national epic Kalevala. And she has designs in the newest Beloved Patterns magazine and the new Finnish Knits issue of Laine Magazine.

Metsänpeitto is a bottom- up circular yoke sweater inspired by the Finnish folklore concept of being "covered by the forest". It has a lovely spruce branchlet pattern on the yoke, cuffs, and hem. The suggested yarn for this pattern is Lettlopi, which is 100% Iclandic wool.

Lintukoto is a top-down circular yoke sweater that draws inspiration from Karelian and Balt embroidery designs. Lintukoto is a mythical place from Finnish folk tradition that is located in the south and southeast, at the edge of the world, where the earth and sky meet. Lintukoto is knit with DK-weight yarn.

Viimatar is a cozy pair of colorwork socks to keep your toes warm. Viima is a Finnish word that means a cold wind or draft, and the -tar suffix means goddess. They're knit with DK-weight yarn.

Magia Naturali is a bottom-up sweater inspired by natural magic which has benevolent intent. This pattern was designed for the Finnish Knits - Neuleita Suomesta special issue of Laine Magazine. It is knit with DK-weight yarn.

Metsänpeitto translates (literally) to forest blanket. The design is inspired by a Finnish folklore concept of being "covered by forest". This isn't just forest bathing, someone under the “forest blanket" could be lost forever. The design has spruce branchlets on the yoke, cuffs, and hem, and it can be your forest blanket. I can't guarantee no one will find you, though.

Lettlopi is a 100% Icelandic wool yarn. Iceland is a fairly cold and wet place. Icelandic sheep have adapted to these conditions, and their unique characteristics makes the yarn soft as well as water-resistant.

I have a wide variety of colors to choose from in my online shop
