NYC Knits

I recently visited New York City as a chaperone for my child's chorus trip. Inspired by the Big Apple, I found a few patterns that draw their inspiration from this bustling city.

Tanis Gray has published a beautiful stranded colorwork cowl called New York City at Night. It utilizes DK weight yarn, and US 4 / 3.5 mm needles.

The cowl gets its inspiration from the New York City skyline's massive buildings and the city's iconic neon lights.

Berroco has a one-shoulder top called New York City Lights. It is knit in DK weight yarn with US 7 / 4.5 mm and US 5 / 3.75 mm needles.

You can get the twinkling city lights effect by adding beads to your garment while knitting. If you don't already have one, a Fleegle Beader is an awesome tool for adding beads to your knits.

Lauren, AKA Whodunnknit, has a whole book of NYC themed knits called Stitch New York: 20 Kooky Ways to Knit the City and More.

With these patterns you can knit yourself a Lady Liberty as well as an Empire State Building. And if you're going to knit the Empire State Building, you'll need a King Kong to go on it.

You can find several other patterns on Ravelry by searching New York City. If you do try any of these patterns, make sure you let me know!
